Cabinet of Curiosities

Sunday Mourning

Today we turn the clocks back to the late 1800’s, with photography being very much en vogue, cabinet cards and tin type studios opening even the smaller towns across the country. It was only a matter of time before these images would find their way into our mourning process.

These pieces, new in the cabinet, are mourning pins. These miniature portraits were worn by surviving loved ones to remember the dead. The three examples shown here range in date from the late 1870’s to the early 1920’s.
